"Once every age the faeries gather and have a grand ball. Unlike the mortal's masquerade parties, the faeries use this opportunity to remove the masks that they show to humanity and truly be themselves."
The painting - The first in the "Faerie Gathering" series. The blue faerie is often seen as a cold and haughty spirit. Even without the mask this faerie shows a great distain for those around her. Painted in acrylic on 18"x24" canvas.
The mask - Tricksy and impertinent, faeries may not always be what they seem. The feathers that make her face charming and sweet can easily be removed to reveal horns! (And the feathers can be worn in your own hair, or as wrist cuffs, independent of the mask). This “Blue Faerie” mask is crafted of patterned paper mache over a sturdy ABS plastic base formed from an original sculpture, with hand sculpted features. A subtle glitter wash makes it sparkle and change with the angle of the light. A glass drop at the forehead invites you to scry…
The frame - The frame features a hand carved water-leaf pattern and a silvered sight-edge all stained dark red with a slightly silvered glaze. The frame is constructed of Poplar hardwood in order to strike a balance between weight and strength, and it is finished in durable shellac. There are magnets mounted two locations in the frame to support the mask hooks either in front of the face or below the frame.
