Waiting on me!

I wish we had something new to show you, but progress is being held up by me. It's been a crazy summer, but some of my projects have finally finished (like a wedding oil portrait for some friends), and my big project at work will be slowing down after the summer. So... what does that mean for Eldritch Muse? We have just signed up for another couple of panels at Orycon! My plan is to have completed the third Mix and Match painting by then, and maybe a new "secret" project. I am told that Dave has the frame for the third Mix and Match partially completed (and he's waiting on me), and he should hopefully have the Nymph done by then as well. Devin has also said that this winter she will be researching local galleries to showcase in now that we finally have enough works to show. Right Devin? :)

Mix and Match - 2 Finished!

With Norwescon coming up soon (March 20th) EM is hoping to have at least a couple of our new Mix and Match series available. As I stated in my previous blog I am currently working on some paintings for this. However I put down the "pretty boy" painting and decided to go with something different. I did work on it some more, but compared to the other two I am not as happy with him.

The first one I finished is what I call the "water spirit". I'm still working on a different name for her though so feel free to suggest one!

And I've nearly got "Wisdom" here finished as well.

For our next series, with a working title of "Mix and Match", we are planning 3 (or 5, we're still discussing it) masks and paintings that follow a similar color scheme and style so that a buyer can purchase the mask and the painting she/he likes!

The painting I'm currently working on is a moody looking guy and I took a couple of "in progress" photos to share with you.

Here is stage 1 (well, this is really about stage 3 in the total process). I've filled in all the white spaces (except for in the hair) and have the major points of the skin tone done. You can also see my fancy tin foil covered palette that I use. ;)

And here is stage 2! This is taken about 4 hours after the first photo and about 8 hours into the total painting. There's still several hours worth of work to do on him, but I usually like to stop for a day or so once I get to this point so that I can come back fresh. Some of the color got washed out in the photo since I used a flash.

Awards at Orycon!

Eldritch Muse won two awards at Orycon! Old Man of the Woods won Best 3D and our newest piece, The Veldt, won Best Mixed Media! Sorry about the grainy quality of the photo. I had to sneak in there with my camera phone to take the picture.

For those attending Orycon this weekend (November 16-18) I will be running several panels:

Friday - 5-6pm - "Selling the offspring: your emotional investment in your art and how much do you charge for it?"
Saturday - 1-2pm - "How to take photographs and turn them into art"
Saturday - 5-6pm - "How to make your fantasy look believable (or should you?)"
Sunday - 1-2pm - "The art of recycling - The ups and downs of selling the same work multiple times"

In the Saturday 1-2pm slot I will be talking about the process by which I do the layout for my Eldritch Muse paintings!

Eldritch Muse Progress Report

Eldritch Muse is a joint effort by three artists - a painter, a mask maker and a framer. We work together to create a one of a kind 3D art that contains not only a complete work of art, but also has a mask that can be worn!

This is our blog. My hope is that we can each write (when we get time) and keep you appraised of what we are working on! Devin, the mask maker is working on some great masks for our latest idea - a mix and match set! I am currently working on the first painting for that series. And Dave, our framer, is madly framing the Zulu Lion for Orycon next weekend.
